Pentecost Sunday

"Come Alongside"
Centering Prayer
We rejoice greatly, loving God, in the birthday of the church known to us as Pentecost. Your Holy Spirit has come bringing the church into reality. Likewise, your Holy Spirit seals us as members of Christ's family. Your Spirit emboldens the church and keeps us faithful as disciples of Christ. So we praise you, Lord, for the church that has nourished us from our childhoodand continues to nourish us today. Amen.
Call to Worship
Our God reigns! Robed with majesty and armed with strength, God holds our world and our lives securely. This is the God to whom we have given our lives – the God who deserves our worship and our praise!
Morning Prayer
Where did you go Jesus? Where did you go? We stand, necks craning back, looking heavenwards, but we cannot see you. Where did you go? Did you leave us?
Hush my child, listen, listen, Listen for the breeze. Listen for the breath. Listen for the Holy Wind's whispered promise: You are not alone. You are not alone. You are never alone. My love is yours. My strength is yours. My wisdom... all yours for the taking. Listen, listen, listen....
It comes, a gentle breeze, caressing your spirit. It comes, building, energizing, filling the spaces until you are full. O Holy Spirit! Come!

Breath of God, Spirit of God, our wise counselor, our constant companion: help us to remember that you are always with us in persecutions, and turmoil, and dread; in excitements, and joy and love; in the mundane and everyday you are here.
O God, our God, we praise you. We call on you. We rely on you as we stand and stare, as we wait again for the reminder that Pentecost only needed to happen once as you promised, for now the Spirit is always with us. Creator, Brother, Breath. Amen and amen

Centering Prayer
Here, in this place, God welcomes all the dreamers, as well as the doubters: here, the worriers and wanderers can call on God by name. Here, in this time, we can remember all the ways God has graced us: here, in these moments, we are reminded that God is with us, always! Here are gathered those daring enough to step out of comfort into the unknown: here, in this faith space, we will find the courage to cry out, 'God, save us!' in every situation. Amen.
Call to Worship
To God be all glory, the One who visits us in three persons,the Holy Trinity of hope and love. For there is no place which is without you, O God, and no time when you are not there. For you are the beginning and the end, the source of all that is in the wonder of universal life. And yet, you take us by the hand and lead us, as the life of Christ walks our human way and shows us that life is stronger than death. In the Holy Spirit, we are gifted, again and again, and are called onwards toward a future in which we are surrounded with love and grace. We praise and worship you, O God, for there is no other God like you. Amen.
Morning Prayer
In this act of prayer, O God, our lives are opened to you, and with them, our world. We pray that your Spirit would whisper through every heart and every place where the voice of your presence is silent. We ask that your Spirit would challenge and empower all who are weak, broken, diseased or weeping. We long for your Spirit to inspire all who follow you to think, speak and live as true imitators of Christ. That our world and all who live in it may know peace, healing and reconciliation with you and with each other. Bless us, O Lord, that we may become the building blocks of your Kingdom among us. In Jesus' name, amen.

Centering Prayer
Holy God, the source of all good things, we pause in your presence and hold our day before you. Still us, calm us, guide us as we enter this day. Amen.
Call to Worship
VOICE ONE: We are the body of Christ!
VOICE TWO: The hand clapping, toe tapping, heart pumping, mouth tasting, arms embracing,
VOICE THREE: Justice seeing, hymn singing, love making, bread breaking, risk taking
ALL: Body of Christ!
VOICE ONE: Baptized in one Spirit, we are members of one body.
ALL: Many and varied in gender, color, sexuality, age, class, and ability, we are members of Christ's beautiful body.
VOICE TWO: None of us can say to another, "I have no need of you."
ALL: For only together can we find wholeness.
VOICE THREE: None of us can say to another, "I will not care for you."
ALL: For we are connected like muscle and bone. If one suffers, we all suffer. If one rejoices, we all rejoice!
VOICE ONE: Thanks be to God who, in Christ, has made us one.
ALL: Let us worship God!
Prayer of Invocation
Gathered in this sacred space, O Creator Spirit, in the multicolored company of your Church on Earth and in Heaven, we celebrate your creation and invite your presence into our midst. We know, Creator Spirit, that eternity cannot hold you, nor can our little words describe the breadth of your faithfulness to us. Yet in the space of our small heart and in silence, Come close and heal us.

ONE: Creator Spirit, bring new life
ALL: Where we are worn and tired,
ONE: New love
ALL: Where we have turned hard-hearted,
ONE: Forgiveness
ALL: Where we feel hurt and are wounded,
ONE: And the joy and freedom of Your holy presence

"Coming Out"
Centering Prayer
When we gather in your name, we are changed. There is no way around it. We cannot come together in your presence and not be moved. So, today we surrender to your moving and to the ways you desire to change us. Let this hour together be sacred, and may your name be made great. You are holy, worthy and full of glory. We are humbled to be in your presence. Receive our worship as an offering of praise. Amen.
Call to Worship
ONE: In our moments of chaos...
ALL: God is with us.
ONE: In our moments of calm...
ALL: God is with us.
ONE: In our moments of life.
ALL: God is with us. Alleluia! We go as a Pentecost people, touched by fire, stirred by wind, to mend the world. Alleluia!
Morning Prayer
Keeper of every moment in eternity: we come, not only to hear those words which can transform us, but to be filled with your grace and hope. We have come, not out of habit, but to respond to your call, willing to be called away from the familiar ways of our lives. Walker of our journeys, in the midst of our harried lives, you call us to lay aside all that entangles us, to follow you into service to others. You invite us to step into the waters of life and hope, reaching out to draw others to our side so that, together, we might enter your kingdom of laughter and joy. When uncertainty fills every block in our daily calendars, you come, Grace's Companion, to offer that hope which anchors us in God's heart; to place our feet firmly on that rock called peace; to bring us safely to that haven filled with God's steadfast love. God in Community, Holy in One, we offer our prayer to you. Amen.

Centering Prayer
O God, you are a God of Life to us. You show yourself as our source of compassion as we struggle for whole relationships in the home, our communities, our nation and our world. We recognize your presence among us in our life and worship, and ask your gentle Spirit to constantly open our hearts to the ways of justice and peace. We ask all of this in your Name,
because you alone are holy, our true justice and peace. Amen.
Call to Worship
ONE: We are called together this day to praise God
ALL: We ask that God will put us in pathways to service to others.
ONE: The Lord will walk with us as we faithfully witness to Christ’s love.
ALL: Open our hearts, Lord, to receive your words and will.
ONE: Come, let us worship God!
ALL: Let us sing our praises to God our Redeemer and Healer.
Morning Prayer
Merciful God, in all our celebration, fireworks, parades, and gatherings we have proclaimed liberty and freedom. Yet our hearts are chained by anger, doubt, terror, and fear. We live in those chains, often not knowing that there is really any other way. We have become accustomed to our imprisonment. Forgive us when we turn away from your freeing love. Help us to place our trust in you and serve you by working with others for peace and hope for all. These things we ask in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
