Celebration of Pentecost and Holy Communion
Reverend Debra McGuire
Music Director - Jessica Reddell-Popovich
Liturgist - Ken Henry
“We do not throw in a useless coin and make some kind of empty wish,
or sit close to the gushing waters and simply admire their loveliness.
You ask us to leap into the source, to be thoroughly saturated.
We are to be absorbed by the cascade and become one with your love.
As you flow through our being we, too, become fountains of holiness." 1

Opening Prayer 2
The wind at our backs, we entered Jerusalem. Only to watch him die on the cross. It spiraled so quickly. Trial. Torture. Crucifixion. Death. But on the third day the breath of God blew new life into our futures. Forty days with the risen Jesus. Before he ascended, Jesus reminded us that the Spirit will come. It was on Pentecost. It was on Pentecost when the wind breathed into each and every one of us.
Let us pray: Sacred breath, move through this room. Unlock a song within your people. Breathe into us your hopes and dreams for a world filled with justice, love, and peace. Amen
Welcome

Affirmation of Faith 4
We share one faith, have one calling, are of one soul and one mind; have one God and Father, are filled with one Spirit, are baptized with one baptism, eat of one bread and drink of one cup, confess one Name, are obedient to one Lord, work for one cause, and share one hope. Together we come to know the height and the breadth and the depth of the love of Christ; are built up to the stature of Christ, to the new humanity; know and bear one another's burdens, thereby fulfilling the law of Christ that we need one another and up build one another, admonishing and comforting one another; that we suffer with one another for the sake of righteousness. Together we pray; together we serve God in this world.

Hymn 366 Love Divine, All Loves Excelling
Invitation to the Offering 5
Our faith leads us to believe these things: That night always gives way to the dawn; war always gives way to peace and that death is always shattered by life
God is doing a new thing every minute of every day. God is at work, around us and within us for the homeless, a place to live; for the hungry, a feast; for the thirsty, a cup of cold clean water that runneth over; for the weary, rest; for the lonely, a friend; for the sick, healing and wholeness.
And we are called to be a part of God's work of generosity. We are called to give, to surrender our time, talent, and treasure to this God-work of making all things new. Let us receive this morning's offering, either by putting your gifts in the basket here on the table now or later, or by mailing your gifts to the church.
Offertory “Panis Angelicus” Louis Lambillotte, Arr. NAM
Prayer of Dedication 5
Loving God, with these gifts we hope to help you make a whole new world. With these gifts we hope to help make real what your prophets declare, that mourning and crying and pain will be no more. With these offerings, help make a world where everyone is loved, a world where justice and compassion roll down like a mighty stream, a world where everyone has warm food, cool water, healthcare, and friends - a world where death is no more, where mourning and crying and pain are no more! We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.

Preparation of the Table
Invitation and Great Prayer of Thanksgiving 6
Friends, this is the joyful feast of unity. Christ has gathered his people around the earth to commune at this table. Across political lines and economic lines, in places of powerfully protected affluence, and among the poorest of the poor, we share a meal, remembering and celebrating the One who proved shalom possible. And so, come: you from the East and you from the West, from the North and from the South. Come. Come with your doubts, come with your hopes, come with your inadequacies and with your strengths. Come, for this is a table where all are invited and all are welcome.
LEADER: The Lord be with you
PEOPLE: And also with you
LEADER: Lift up your hearts
PEOPLE: We lift them up to the Lord
LEADER: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God

Opening Prayer 2
Abba, Father, Mother, Creator–we call You by many names, but the names we choose show our relationship with You. We desire to draw closer to You, O God. We desire to hear Your voice above the chatter of the world, to know Your ways and to walk in them. Spirit of Life, Wind and Breath among us, we feel You move through us, guiding us on our journey, inspiring us to share Your love with others. Jesus, the Christ, the Savior of us all, our Brother and Friend, we desire to walk in Your ways and to love one another as You have first loved us. Triune God, we desire to relate to You and to each other more fully, so that we might draw into the depths of Your love, first glimpsed at creation, when Your voice called us and the earth forth out of darkness into Your light. Continue to call us, guide us and lead us into this world and beyond. Amen.

Opening Prayer 1
Good morning – let's prepare our hearts and minds for worship. Gracious God, once again you have called us together in this place. Here we open our hearts and lives before you, here we seek to hear your life-giving Word. God in this time of song and prayer and speech, open our very souls to receive your challenge, open our wills to accept your instruction. Turn our mourning into dancing, replace our sackcloths with garments of joy. And when our time of worship is ended, lead us back out into the world to share the Good News with the world around us. We pray in the name of the One who brought your healing love, Jesus of Nazareth. Amen.

Opening Prayer 1
Life-giving God. We thank you, divine Seamstress, for you never stop creating. From the dawn of time, to our mother's womb, even in the age to come, your creativity is as endless as eternity. Today you are knitting us, your people, into a garment of many colors. We thank you, Holy Spirit, for you do not allow us to grow complacent. You stir up dreams and visions within us, making us restless for a new Heaven and a new Earth. You clothe us with power to bring these dreams to life. In you, we are beginning to see all things anew. We thank you, Christ our Savior for your wondrous transformation, Word made into flesh. You challenge us with foreign experiences, teaching us that those we thought were strange and cut off are members in your holy body. Therefore, with Joseph and all of Israel's children, with the confused disciples and the Ethiopian eunuch, with all who have shown us your way, all you have gone before us, and all those we gather with this day, we praise your name.

Affirmation of Faith 2
Holy One, known to us in many ways but still unknown to us, we are together and we ask for your blessings as we rejoice as a community. Bless our pride together. May it also be a humble reflection of gratitude for who it is you have created us to be, each of us and us together. Bless our celebration that it be an expression of our joy in love and in health. Bless our laughter and let it be something that builds friendships and relationships. Bless our tears also and for the same reasons. If we encounter anyone who opposes us, bless them too. We humbly ask that fear and anger don't find a voice today. We humbly ask that love gets the last word and the clearest expression. Bless our differences as a source of our strength and a sign of our respect for one another and our love for you. Bless those for whom it takes great courage to be here that they may feel the abundance of life in such a way that it's no longer just words on a page. We feel that we are called to speak and to hear your vision of justice and of peace. Help us do that well and do it faithfully. Bless each one of us here today with your presence and our presence, one with another. You are faithful to us, we want to be faithful to you, to each other and to the community around us. Amen.

Lord, the eyes of all look to You in hope; and You give them what they need. You open Your hand and satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing. We, too, turn to You again, longing to be filled— to eat of the Bread of Life, to drink from Your life-giving streams, to taste Your goodness and live. May the time we spend together in Your presence nourish our hearts and minds; may it strengthen our relationship with You, and renew our commitment to live in this world as Your faithful disciples. For You alone are God, the Source and Sustainer of life. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Invitation and Great Prayer of Thanksgiving 5
Welcome to the delight that is this table. Our Lord's table. Welcome to the table where the love of God meets Humanity. We welcome everyone to this table, no matter your church background, your knowledge of biblical ideas, no matter your sexual orientation or gender truth, no matter your mood. Wherever and whoever you are you are welcome here, you belong, you are worthy. Hear these words of welcome to the table written by Ann Siddell.
“This is for you, but it may change you from one who is anxiously concerned about their own redemption into one who knows that Christ's body is the earth and all who walk upon it, are one in Him. Into knowing that we are not redeemed by our being good but by our being connected. Into knowing that daring to eat at the table of Jesus Christ has unimaginable consequences.
So come, come to be made whole, and to participate in the work of making us one with Him and each other.”

Come into the chill of our existence, of God and the cool of our soul. Bring the warmth of your presence, the glow of enthusiastic worship. Come into the routine of our church, O God, into the familiar nature of our relationships. Bring the joy of good friends, the assurance that there are those on whom we can rely. Come into our habitual ways, O God, the groove of our family life. Bring the inspiration of fresh challenges, the satisfaction of caring for our loved ones faithfully. O God, we rejoice that Jesus the Way goes ahead of us, He who is the pattern of our faith community, the direction of our future. O God, we rejoice that Jesus the Compassionate One goes with us, calling us to acts of caring, showing us how much can be achieved if we work together. Amen.

ONE: Christ sent out disciples two by two, to spread the good news in any place that would welcome them. Who will hear their message?
ALL: We will listen and we will hear!
ONE: God's prophets are among us still, around the world and in these pews. Who will hear their message?
All: We will listen and we will hear!
Hymn 410 God is Calling through the Whisper
Affirmation of Faith 3
Response Hymn 293

Message
Hymn 793 O Christ, the Healer
Invitation to the Offering 4
Offertory “Art Thou With Me?” J.S. Bach
Prayer of Dedication 4
Loving God, with these gifts we hope to help you make a whole new world. With these gifts we hope to help make real what your prophets declare, that mourning and crying and pain will be no more. With these offerings, help make a world where everyone is loved, a world where justice and compassion roll down like a mighty stream, a world where everyone has warm food, cool water, healthcare, and friends - a world where death is no more, where mourning and crying and pain are no more! We pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
Prayers of the People
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Opening Prayer 1
Lord, the eyes of all look to You in hope; and You give them what they need. You open Your hand and satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing. We, too, turn to You again, longing to be filled — to eat of the Bread of Life, to drink from Your life-giving streams, to taste Your goodness and live. May the time we spend together in Your presence nourish our hearts and minds; may it strengthen our relationship with You, and renew our commitment to live in this world as Your faithful disciples. For You alone are God, the Source and Sustainer of life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Welcome
