Opening Prayer  1

Thanks be to you, O God, for this hour of worship and wonder, for this day to rest and renew, for this time of peace and pardon. Accept our glory and praise, for you are the source of our salvation, you are the instructor of righteousness, you are our God, and we are your people, through Jesus Christ your Son. Amen.

Hymn 403  Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty

Confession of Faith 2

We are not alone, we live in God's world. We believe in God, who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus to reconcile and to make all things new. We trust in God, who calls us to be the church; to celebrate God's presence, to live with respect in creation, to love and serve others, to seek justice and to resist evil, to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope. In life, in death, in life beyond death, God is with us. We are not alone. Thanks be to God.

Response Hymn 425

Son of God, whose heart is peace, Son of God, most holy,

To your presence we have come; give us now your love.

Words of Assurance

ONE: The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. I declare to you, in the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. May the God of mercy, who forgives you all your sins, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

ALL: Thanks be to God!

Invitation to the Offering 1

God has been good to us in ways we do not understand and for reasons we cannot comprehend. Let us honor God with our gifts, out of thankful hearts and joyous spirits. Offerings consist of many things, some of which are financial. You are invited to come and put your offerings and any prayer requests in this basket on the table now, or later this morning, and you are welcome to continue mailing your offerings to the church. Let us receive this morning's offering.

Offertory     Give Thanks     Don Moen

Prayer of Dedication 3

God of extravagant mercy, with hands outstretched you have poured out wonder and pleasure and delight, goodness and beauty and bounty. So take these offerings, we pray, as our protest against all that is evil and ugly and impoverished, in our world and ourselves - And thus may we and others know ourselves to be blessed. Bless what we give and bless what we keep that all may be used for your glory. Amen.

Prayers of the People

ONE: Lord in your Mercy,

ALL: Hear our prayer.

For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Opening Prayer  1

The words God speaks are the life and sustenance of all that exists. The life Jesus gives is the re-creation and renewed birth of all that is broken and worn. The Spirit's stirring in our souls is the inspiration for creativity, compassion, joy, and community. Life-giving, life-restoring, life-fulfilling God; may our whole lives be worship. In all things, may we seek to connect with and to reflect your love and your hope.

Anthem   Let It Be Known     Brady, Smith, and Weeks

Sermon   Reverend Debra McGuire

Hymn 340   This Is My Song

Invitation to the Offering 4

The willingness to give is a sign of life. The fruit tree gives of its fruit, and we know it is alive. The ability to give comes and goes. Truly God is good to us in ways beyond our understanding. Offerings consist of many things, some of which are financial. As we offer our gifts and lives in this moment, may we become imitators of God, who holds nothing back from us, but is generous and gracious with us. You are invited to come and put your offerings and any prayer requests in this basket on the table now, or later this morning, and you are welcome to continue mailing your offerings to the church. Let us receive this morning's offering.

Offertory     Give Thanks     Don Moen

Prayer of Dedication 5

Let us pray: Lord, we bring before you the common things of our common life: our money, our songs, our labors to be your faithful congregation, our needs and dreams, our joys and sorrows, our selves. We celebrate all this with you, seeking the touch of your Spirit so that we will share more deeply what we are and have with all people in our city and our world. In faith and gratitude we offer common things made miracles by your grace. Bless what we give and bless what we keep that all may be used for your glory. Amen.

Sacrament of Holy Communion 5

Welcome to the delight that is this table.  Our Lord's table.  Welcome to the table where the love of God meets Humanity.  We welcome everyone to this table, no matter your church background, your knowledge of biblical ideas, no matter your sexual orientation or gender truth, no matter your mood.  Wherever and whoever you are you are welcome here, you belong, you are worthy.

This is for you, but it may change you from one who is anxiously concerned about their own redemption into one who knows that Christ's body is the earth and all who walk upon it, are one in Him.  Into knowing that we are not redeemed by our being good but by our being connected.  Into knowing that daring to eat at the table of Jesus Christ has unimaginable consequences.

So come, come to be made whole, and to participate in the work of making us one with God and each other.

Preparation of the Table

ONE: The Lord be with you

ALL: And also with you

ONE: Lift up your hearts

ALL: We lift them up to the Lord

ONE: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God

ALL: It is right to give our thanks and praise

ONE: We give you thanks, O God, for making your love evident since the very beginning of time when you spoke the word which replaced the darkness of chaos with life-giving light. A light which has nurtured generations of people, and plants and creatures, great and small. A light which also revealed the fear and powerlessness caused by corrupt and evil actions. And so you spoke the Word which would once and for all dispel the darkness of chaotic lives. Through your love for the world the Word became flesh and lived among us full of grace and truth. The angels caroled glory to you in the highest heavens and peace to all people on earth, and we join with them and with all people to praise your holy name saying together:

ALL:     Holy Lord, God of endless love, heaven and earth are surely full of your glory. The angels sang of it - we have been lavished with it. Blessed is he who was born that we might have life. Glory to God and on earth peace to all people.

ONE:      Holy God, as the travelers with their treasures were overwhelmed with joy on finding Jesus, so we also are overwhelmed on finding out the depth of his love for us. For Jesus showed just how beloved we are to him, by loving us and giving himself for us. On that night when he gave himself up for us, as he sat at the table and broke bread with his friends, he said: 'Take and eat; this is my body which is broken for you. Remember me each time you do this.' After they had eaten, he took the cup, and said: 'Remember me as you drink from this, for it is my life, poured out for you—the beginning of a new relationship with God.'

Send the power of your Holy Spirit upon these gifts of bread and wine, O God, that we may experience the presence of the Word-made-flesh - Jesus Christ. Breathe your Spirit in us that we may be one body with him - living out his ministry in the world today and every day. This we pray in Jesus' name. Amen.

Prayer of Thanksgiving

Generous God, You are the source of all life, creating and sustaining every living thing. You are the source of all food, material and spiritual, nourishing us in both body and soul. You are the light that goes before us, shining into the darkness. May we be filled with your breath nourished by your food renewed by your living water and sustained by your love.

Prayers of the People

ONE: Lord in your Mercy,

ALL: Hear our prayer.

Opening Prayer  1

Lord, the eyes of all look to you in hope; and you give them what they need. You open your hand and satisfy the hunger and thirst of every living thing. We, too, turn to you again, longing to be filled - to eat of the Bread of Life, to drink from your life-giving streams, to taste your goodness and live. May the time we spend together in your presence nourish our hearts and minds; may it strengthen our relationship with you, and renew our commitment to live in this world as your faithful disciples. For you alone are God, the Source and Sustainer of life. In Jesus' name, Amen

Opening Prayer  1

Holy God, we come together to worship, a people who would like to think that we love you with all our hearts and souls, with all our might, but there are so many other things in our lives that clamor for our attention that we often relegate you to Sundays and Wednesdays, and times when we want you to rescue us.

Most of us really do want you to be the one in whom we live and move and have our being. We really do want to hear your voice above all of the other voices in our lives. But we get bogged down in the daily routine. We forget who we are. We forget who you are. We forget what the church is supposed to be.

So here we are, standing before you today, with our human foibles and our short attention spans, asking that you would make yourself known to us, that you would help us to recognize the presence of the Holy, that you would continue to challenge us, inspire us, and make us into the people you want us to be. Amen.

Hymn 716   God, Whose Giving Knows No Ending

Offertory     Wade in the Water      Trad. Spiritual, Arr. Rhodes

Amen.

Prayers of the People

ONE: Lord in your Mercy,

ALL: Hear our prayer.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Opening Prayer  1

Holy God, Creator of Life, you call us out of our dark places, offering us the grace of new life. When we see nothing but hopelessness, you surprise us with the breath of your spirit. Call us out of our complacency and routines, set us free from our self-imposed bonds, and fill us with your spirit of life, compassion, and peace, in the name of Jesus, your anointed one, we pray. Amen.

Call To Worship 2

ONE: God sent Christ into the world not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. God's love endures forever.

ALL: God is our refuge and strength, a present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though the waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult. God's love endures forever. Let us worship God!

Hymn 830  Jesus, Priceless Treasure

Confession of Faith 2

ONE: God's amazing love for us is evident by the confidence we have to approach God with even our deepest thoughts. Because we have faith, we dare to approach God with confidence. In faith and penitence, let us confess before God and one another.

ALL: Merciful God, in your gracious presence we confess our sin and the sin of this world. Although Christ is among us as our peace, we are a people divided against ourselves as we cling to the values of a broken world. The profit and pleasures we pursue lay waste the land and pollute the seas. The fears and jealousies that we harbor set neighbor against neighbor and nation against nation. We abuse your good gifts of imagination and freedom, of intellect and reason, and have turned them into bonds of oppression. Lord, have mercy upon us; heal and forgive us. Set us free to serve you in the world as agents of your reconciling love in Jesus Christ.

Response Hymn 425

Son of God, whose heart is peace, Son of God, most holy,

To your presence we have come; give us now your love.

Words of Assurance 2

ONE: The mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting. I declare to you, in the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. May the God of mercy, who forgives you all your sins, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen.

ALL: Thanks be to God!

Opening Prayer  1

You call us to wait on you, Lord, but we get tired of waiting. Your answers to our prayers, your call for us to serve you, the promise of your coming kingdom, they all seem to take so long. You tell us to watch for your coming, Lord, but we're not sure how to prepare for…a thief in the night, an undisclosed time, and your disconcerting habit of secrecy and mystery. Yet, something inside whispers that you're not all that hard to find; That you're always coming to us, and that both the waiting and the watching, are more about being open to you now, than about trying not to be surprised in the future. And so we will keep waiting, and we'll try to stay alert, so that we can catch the glimpses of your glory that fill our day, every day Amen.
